Are you an ASD Teacher looking to make a real difference in the lives of children? We are seeking a Special Educational Needs, ASD Teacher for a vibrant primary school in Lambeth specialising in supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), specifically in KS2 (primary school). This school offers fantastic CPD opportunities and welcomes applications from experienced SEN teachers or mainstream teachers that are looking for an exciting new challenge.

In this rewarding ASD Teacher role, you will be responsible for creating a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment tailored to the unique needs of each student based on their care plan. Your expertise as an ASD Teacher will help develop individualised learning plans that promote engagement, through sensory based learning, whilst providing students with a comprehensive curriculum focused on the need for a sensory approach to learning and the motivation for each of the students' needs.

The successful ASD Teacher applicant would be joining a long-standing SEN school in Lambeth for children with severe learning difficulties and complex medical needs. This SEN school offers provision for pupils from 4-19 years, who have severe learning differences and all have a diagnosis of autism. There is a focus on child-centred learning, and staff are trained in specialist communication methods such as makaton, PECS and communication books, as well as working alongside a focus on growing independence as they move through the school.

ASD Teacher Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement personalised educational programs based on a curriculum that centres around students' needs, such as connecting and responding, life skills and independence.
  • Work with individualised care plans to maximise student potential, development and success, focusing on a modified national curriculum that suits the need of the student.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including therapists and educational psychologists.
  • Foster a positive and supportive classroom atmosphere.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adapting approaches as the ASD Teacher in the classroom.
  • Engage with parents and caregivers to support student development at home and in school.
  • Work with and lead a support team within the classroom.

ASD Teacher Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of ASD teaching practices.
  • Experience working in a primary education setting is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
