We have an exciting vacancy for an Asset Engineer (Scotland) within the Scotland Transmission Asset Engineering team structure of our Asset Management Department. This role is based in the Scotland Gas Network area.

This role would require management of >7 Barg assets located within the High-Pressure Network in Scotland with a focus on Major Projects (Construction Department) Liaison. The role will require travel to sites and office locations across the Scotland Network.

  • You will be responsible for undertaking a range of activities to safely manage the operation of the network to agreed standards, including ensuring compliance with Pressure Systems Safety Regulations, Pipeline Safety Regulations, and other statutory and licence obligation undertakings.
  • You will oversee periodic inspections and revalidations of systems and coordinate the assessment and resolution of any inspection findings arising from these inspections. This includes Inspection Schedule Audits on sites in addition to snagging following the completion of Major Works.
  • You will prepare technical scopes and financial business cases in accordance with Condition Assessment and Regulatory Measures to facilitate the broad range of engineering activities required to meet the needs of the business in line with IGEM/TD/1, IGEM/TD/13, and associated SGN and industry standards.
  • You will participate in the co-ordination of relevant activities across the business, including construction, maintenance, gas control, and finance, to facilitate the safe operation and development of the gas transportation system.
  • You will provide technical review and support for the implementation of investment decisions, including inspection, remediation, and tendering contracts in support of these activities.

  • In addition, you need to be an effective communicator at all levels and be able to act on your own initiative.
  • Candidates would also be expected to demonstrate high level of computer literacy and associated skills.
  • It is essential that you are committed to the SGN values and play a key role in your team delivering SGN targets while operating within our safety rules and culture.
  • The successful candidate will ideally have an engineering degree (Mechanical/Chemical/Process engineering) however this requirement may be relaxed where candidate demonstrates exceptional abilities in terms of criteria specified above.
  • Professional registration as a Chartered or Incorporate Engineer would be advantageous but is not mandatory. Candidates with a commitment to attain registration and a demonstrated commitment to personal CPD will also be welcomed.
  • The successful candidate is required to hold a driving licence and be prepared to travel periodically.

It is essential for this job to have good knowledge and understanding of:

  • The gas transmission/distribution system and the linked dependences of the systems
  • Excellent understanding of Health and Safety Frameworks
  • IGEM standards and relevant legislation.
  • The gas industry as a whole
