As the post holder, you will be expected to have an extensive understanding of Critical Facilities/Data Centre infrastructure (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing & associated assets). As the lead member of the engineering shift team, you will be responsible for effective inspection, operation and maintenance of all associated assets within the critical facility, with a primary focus on critical facilities risk management, enhancing the quality of the service delivery through effective leadership of the shift team.

You will ensure that the conduct of any personnel under your control is safe, professional and conscientious. You will also be required to attend site meetings with the client and on behalf of the client as requested. Driving a Safety-First culture throughout the team on the account, lead through your experience and knowledge of safe systems of works and compliance.

Key Tasks of the Engineering Shift Lead:
  • Supervise, coordinate and support the site-based engineering team, including internal and MEP responsibilities.
  • Operate all systems within the facility in a competent, effective and efficient manner (including MV Switching Operations).
  • Making recommendations for improvement and providing concise technical reports when required.
  • The control of all activities relating to the technical and efficient operation of the installed building systems including all MEP assets and compliance with statutory regulations.
  • Preparing/Planning and Supporting Specialist Vendor Planned, Reactive and Corrective Works, ensuring relevant Change Management approval is submitted for all critical works.
  • Ensure that Specialist Vendor worksheets are signed off where necessary, that quality of work has been inspected and recommendations are communicated by the Engineering Team (Shift Engineers).
  • To provide backup as engineering relief cover in the event of an emergency, which may require temporary Shift working.
  • Ensure the team and Specialist Vendors comply with the contractual service level agreements (SLA's).
  • Key operator of the Corrigo CMMS system, ensuring that MEP PPM, Reactive and Corrective Work Orders/Tasks are accurately completed within SLA.
  • Monitoring progress throughout the shift to ensure compliance with expected outputs from your team.
  • Attend weekly operations meetings, client meetings as requested, in conjunction with Integral account management.
  • Contribution and highlighting engineering risk and reporting on critical systems availability daily.
  • Completing the shift handover reports, ensuring that significant events or activities are noted and effectively communicated to oncoming shifts and management.
  • Control of critical spares including maintaining site stock register, including auditing of stock levels.
  • Procurement of spares from suppliers if required.
  • Compilation of critical incident & near miss reporting and after-action reviews.
  • Ensure all critical equipment operational issues are escalated immediately, in line with local site process.
  • Review service reports of all Specialist Vendors, chasing any recommendations/follow up actions with Specialist Vendors.
  • Production of Site-Specific SOP/MOP/EOP.
  • Assist the Chief Engineer in the delivery of critical infrastructure scenario training.
  • Taking a lead role in the development of engineers within the team.
  • Actively contribute to continuous improvement of safe systems of work, ensuring compliance with relevant HSE policy and procedures.
  • Escalation of Specialist Vendor performance issues, detailing accurately the areas of performance concerns.
  • Ensure technical/legislative updates are effectively communicated with all team members.
  • Maintain minimum levels of resourcing onsite, support the arrangement of suitable cover/replacement.
  • Liaise with the supply chain, when ordering M&E components for remedial works.
  • Drive a positive culture within the team, regarding personal development and training.
  • Coaching of new employees as part of the process for onboarding new starters.
  • Participation in engineering Quality Assurance process, to validate the standards of completed works.
  • Auditing of 10% of completed Work Orders to ensure levels of quality are maintained.
  • Complete all responsibilities in line with the site-based MEP responsibilities matrix.
Personal Specification:
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in Critical Environments such as Banking HQ and Data Centres.
  • HV Authorised Person (Experienced with HV Systems).
  • Electrical/Mechanical Engineering HNC or HND (Successfully completed apprenticeship in either) C&G Pts. 1 & 2, equivalent or exceeds.
  • 17th Edition IEE: Wiring and Installation (Ability to attain 18th Edition through additional training).
  • C&G 2391 test and inspection; BS 7671:2001 for inspection, testing and certification.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to deal with all levels of staff.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and direct a small team of engineers.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to attend on and off-site training for MEP assets, this may require nights away from home due to the nature of the specialist training such as HV Authorised Person Training.
  • Ability to comprehend and act upon both verbal and written instructions.
  • Enthusiasm and demonstration of pro-activity, diligence and alertness, with the willingness to participate in appropriate internal training programmes.
  • Integrity, honesty and punctuality is also expected.
