We are currently seeking an experienced Technical Manager to join a dynamic SME organisation, part of a larger group of companies, offering a range of services across Rail, Highways, and the Built Environment. This company is renowned for its expertise in structural inspection and difficult access solutions, with a strong portfolio of high-profile projects across the UK.

As the Technical Manager, reporting to the Head of Inspection & Maintenance, this role will provide technical expertise to support business activities, particularly in inspection, materials testing, and maintenance, often requiring difficult access techniques.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as the technical focal point for staff and senior management.
  • Provide engineering recommendations for asset stability.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to maintain team competence.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks and inefficiencies.
  • Contribute to tender writing, pricing, and submission.
  • Support external audits and accreditation processes.
  • Mentor team members and assist in their professional development.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Essential: Chartered Engineer (Civil or Structural) with professional membership (e.g., ICE, IStructE).
  • 10+ years’ experience in Highways or Rail sectors.
  • Strong understanding of built structures, their repair, and failure mechanisms.
  • Experience in pricing, tender submissions, and mentoring.
  • Knowledge of Network Rail or Highways Standards.
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Desired: NEBOSH certificate, previous senior management experience.
  • Experience in asset management, ISO standards, and audit processes.
  • Familiarity with Rail/Highways structures condition indices.
  • Competence in training program development and delivery.
  • Network Rail STE competencies (e.g., STE4, STE2).
