This is an exciting opportunity for anyone who is looking to broaden their experience in sustainability, waste management and the environment. We are looking to offer this placement for students looking for experience in Waste and Environmental Impact as part of a placement year during a sustainability, engineering, chemistry or environmental science degree.

Not only does this role offer a rewarding year in industry, but it also has a clear path for progression and career development - which means a bright future awaits. There may be the potential travel to some of the 65+ sites across the UK to support project aims.

What you will be doing:

  • As a key part of our Waste & Environmental Impacts Team, you will provide technical support to the business that will assist with EMR’s biodiversity strategy, develop alternative markets for recycling by-products and compliance associated with waste management activities.
  • You will be collaborating in projects linked to EMR’s Net Zero 2040 commitments and our aim to become a global leader in sustainable materials.
  • Sampling and interpretation of waste streams.
  • Waste classification following hazardous waste classification guidance (WM3).
  • Assisting with data collection and interpretation associated with Environmental & Social Governance: C02, energy, biodiversity, waste & water consumption.
  • Preparing clear, detailed, yet succinct reports as required.
  • Create and plan your own time and on some occasions, that of others.

About you:

  • 2nd or 3rd year completed within STEM subject (chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental science).
  • 2:1 or higher mark predicted in final year.
  • Hold a UK driving licence.
  • Have an enthusiastic can-do attitude; happy to roll up your sleeves and / or conduct detailed research.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Can work under own initiative or as part of a larger team.
