Salary: £65k - (OTE £100k) – flexibility and meetings clients so a few days in the office

Full time: Permanent

We are looking for an experienced Head of Business Development to join a business whose reputation is known in the market and has been built on 40 years’ experience, mostly word of mouth and repeat business. Working closely with Directors and the Senior Management Team, the Head of Business Development will lead strategic and practical efforts. The focus is on building strong client relationships, growing revenue from current accounts, and coming up with plans for lasting client acquisition and revenue increase. You will work with marketing to improve lead generation and share market insights to help the Board and SMT make informed decisions. Working across industries in Pharma, Nuclear, Military, Retail/Consumer, Automotive, Gas, and Energy with some of the most well-known organisations in the North West. Large, big-scale accounts and top-end projects that drive large revenue streams.

The Role:

  • Grow existing accounts and implement strategies to acquire new customers, optimising penetration opportunities.
  • Identify and assess business opportunities and markets, aligning strategies with key business goals.
  • Define a go-to-market strategy encompassing offerings, marketing, and key messages.
  • Establish new business relationships, maintain high-level contacts with current customers and project partners.
  • Represent the company at events/functions and deliver presentations to prospective clients.
  • Provide Monthly Business Development progress reports for the Directors.
  • Conduct site visits to meet with clients, report on performances, and identify opportunities.
  • Approve prequalifications and attend post-tender interviews if necessary.
  • Compile and share marketing intelligence to inform strategic decisions.
  • Participate in the tender process from ITT receipt to proposal delivery and client presentations.
  • Play a key leadership role in shaping the overall direction of the business through the leadership team.

Needs someone to broaden the customer base, make more people aware of the business in the market. Sales journey is slower and consultative – one to two new clients a year is a good target. Knowledge of the market - industrial/manufacturing/B2B or similar sectors. Not relying on databases and leads. All business is built on reputation, getting in front of the right people. Proactively expanding the avenues to revenue, building a name out in the market via building and growing on the reputation.

Who are we looking for?

  • B2B – SME experience and must have knowledge of similar markets to JD – in one of the below - Pharma, Nuclear, Military, Retail/Consumer, Automotive, Gas, Energy.
  • Extensive experience in devising and implementing commercially focused business strategies.
  • Demonstrate a strong commercial focus and a track record of driving profitability.
  • Business-to-business experience and display a customer-first mindset internally and externally.
  • Showcase the ability to assess risks associated with potential business opportunities.
  • Essential senior-level Business Development experience.
  • Possess a strong commercial and technical background and/or understanding.
