Ark Workplace Risk has deep know-how in the end of construction phase and the built environment, and is considered a thought leader in Building Safety Assurance services. We serve Developers, Investors, Property Owners and Property Managers to deliver an innovative suite of Building Safety Assurance with a wide range of services.

As a subject matter expert within our Professional Services Team, you’ll be responsible for working with a team of fire safety and structural engineering specialists providing fire safety and structural safety engineering support within the built environment. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Writing summaries of existing structural engineering information.
  • Supporting the development of building safety case reports.
  • Conducting site inspections and providing reports.
  • Reviewing systematic risk assessments under requirement A3 of the Building Regulations.
  • Interpreting data from external wall investigations.
  • Project monitoring and application of relevant regulations, guidance and best practice to ensure structural safety in buildings.

Key qualifications and experience include:

  • Experience within a Structural Engineering Consultancy.
  • FEA software output interpretation of results.
  • Main point of contact in multi-million-pound projects, ideally residential.
  • Awareness of the Building Safety Act, including the Gateway 2 & 3 process (advantageous).
  • A sound knowledge of all structural safety and engineering guidance and latest structural engineering standards, particularly regarding the residential sector.
  • Knowledge of external wall systems and façade engineering principles, including an appreciation of the PAS9980 methodology.
  • Ability to advise on regulatory compliance.
  • Appreciation of structural fire protection and structural fire analysis and design.
  • Understanding of fire impact and external fire spread analysis.
  • BSc / BEng / MSc / MEng in Structural Engineering or relevant subject.
  • Experience of structural engineered new build, extension and refurbishment works of buildings, ideally residential high rise.
  • Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills and report writing ability.
  • Capability to multi-task and manage multiple projects.
  • Appreciation of the environment in which a building operates, including legal framework, responsibilities and accountabilities, due diligence, evidence management and verification, safety management, and information management.
  • Understanding of how buildings work, including how building systems and components interact to affect performance and building safety.
  • Understanding of risk management in buildings, including the distinction between issues, hazards and risks, stages in risk assessment and risk response, and types of insurance cover.

This is a home-based role, with project-specific site attendance requirements. The majority of our work is in and around London, however, the roles have a national remit, and you will be required to travel outside of London from time to time.
