This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a small integrated management system (IMS) team. This role will develop, maintain, and improve Thames Water’s Environmental Management System (EMS). The role holder will work with teams across the business to provide assurance that the requirements are embedded in operating practices and that we are compliant with our legal and regulatory obligations.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Provide a lead role in environmental management system audits (EMS) - This is a core duty of the role and includes development of the internal management systems audit programme, scoping and undertaking internal audits and reporting.
  • Environmental Management System maintenance and improvement - Support development and maintenance of the management systems, support annual management system reviews, and action tracking tools.
  • External certification of company management systems - Provide a lead role in external audits, including engagement with the external auditor, coordination and briefing of internal stakeholders for audit interviews, site visits and management of non-conformities.
  • Business process and procedure support - Review and support development of documented business processes and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and environmental permit requirements, and the achievement of business plans.
  • Non-conformance and continuous improvement - Help drive the company to learn from its environmental non-conformances and embed that learning to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Act as an EMS Subject Matter Expert (SME) - Provide specialist advice on EMS, further integration, and deliver awareness training. Support the preparation of both planned and ad-hoc regulatory responses relating to the EMS.

What you should bring to the role:

  • Knowledge of management systems, quality management principles and relevant ISO Standards.
  • Experience in scoping and delivering internal audits of EMS.
  • Experience in coordinating and leading external ISO audits to 14001.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining EMS standards, processes, and procedures.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining effective relationships with internal colleagues, managers, and senior leaders, as well as external stakeholders.
  • Experience in supporting and embedding change, able to influence and drive the right culture and behaviours regardless of seniority or rank.

The successful candidate would benefit from transport access and a driving licence for this role.
