Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the seamless operation of the data center, including the installation, patching, and configuration of bespoke environments for various internal and external vendor solutions using diverse network, server, and storage hardware.
  • Utilize internal ticketing systems to manage fault resolution SLAs, ensuring timely troubleshooting, configuration, and replacement of components within managed services hardware (servers, switches, firewalls, storage arrays, etc.).
  • Install, configure, and effectively load balance intelligent PDUs for power monitoring.
  • Address LAN connectivity issues and assist internal teams in re-establishing remote access to customer environments via SSH, Terminal Services/Remote Desktop Services, or Remote Access Controllers.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of structured cabling links between racks, identifying faults or inconsistencies and coordinating with cabling teams for repairs and re-testing.
  • Develop, maintain, and deploy custom DCIM software to ensure 100% adoption and accuracy in all client data centers.
  • Collaborate with various departments, including professional and managed services, as well as data center managers, to improve procedures and share knowledge.
  • Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement within the data center by working closely with specialists and managers to create a library of supporting procedure documentation.
  • Generate monthly reports on space, power, and structured cabling capacity to address expansion needs and monitor power usage.
  • Participate in and adhere to strict change control procedures when performing critical moves, adds, and changes within the data center.
  • Build strong relationships and demonstrate competency with local policies and procedures of third-party data center providers and hosts.
  • Conduct periodic audits and quality control checks on hardware and cabling deployments to maintain 100% system accuracy.
  • Perform any other reasonable tasks or duties assigned by your manager or senior staff.

Required Skills

  • Data center access, site management, proactive system monitoring, and remote hands.
  • Maintain a professional and disciplined approach within the data center.
  • Adhere to ISO 9001, ISO 27001, ISO 20000, and ITIL standards and best practices.
  • Manage access, remote hands, and delivery tickets for visitors or third-party technicians.
  • Proactively monitor internal ticketing systems to ensure swift responses within SLA timeframes.
  • Ensure data centers are always clean and presentable.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in a managed hosting/public or private cloud enterprise data center environment.
  • Experience in a hyper-scale cloud data center (desirable).
  • Proficient in server, storage, and network deployment and ongoing break-fix support.
  • Basic knowledge of data center M&E design, power, cooling, and redundancy.
  • Deep understanding of DCIM tooling and the importance of accurate asset tracking and management (particularly NLyte).
  • Experience with structured cabling deployments of copper and fiber, including design, deployment, looming, testing, and terminating principles (desirable).
  • Demonstrable experience in deploying various industry-recognized manufacturers of server, network, and storage hardware in complex dedicated environments.
  • Familiarity with IT hardware concepts (RAID, SAN, x86 architecture, SCSI, FC, Ethernet, iLO).
  • Well-organized and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient with productivity software, including Microsoft Office and Open Office, as well as email client software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining attention to detail and making informed decisions.
  • Passionate, engaged, and enthusiastic about delivering world-class service.
  • Willingness to participate in a 24/7 on-call rota to support out-of-hours incidents.
  • Full UK driving license and personal car required.
  • Some travel by flight or train, covered by company expenses.
