The Oracle Database Engineer will develop the Marketforce Oracle applications and be an important part of a team already dedicated to these systems. You will have the expertise to resolve complex bugs and improve code quality and structure through ongoing enhancements to the existing codebase. Reporting to the Database Team Lead, you will work within Future's Marketforce team that focuses on Circulation Newsstand in the UK and globally.

With more than 30 years of experience, Marketforce leads the way in magazine distribution, global sales, and marketing for multiple publishing partners which includes the Future portfolio. It is the #1 magazine distributor distributing over 200 million copies worldwide annually. The Marketforce applications are custom and purpose-built, using both waterfall and agile methodologies, on the foundations of Oracle (19c)/ ORACLE Forms (64bit) 12.2.1.3.0, WebLogic 12.2.1.3.0, and Microsoft .NET technologies.

Responsibilities

  • To support core applications and BAU activities, provide user acceptance testing, and deliver the programme and project roadmap set out for the in-house applications using ORACLE applications.
  • Investigate potential software bugs which includes troubleshooting existing code and identifying/implementing solutions.
  • Front-facing in communication and working with partners, to manage expectations and progress of tasks.
  • Ensure that code is written to efficiently manipulate large datasets and perform performance investigation and improvement work.
  • Develop data migration scripts while moving data across databases, from flat files and Excel to tables.
  • Work and align with Software Engineers within the team to deliver the developments across multiple applications.

Experience That Will Put You Ahead Of The Curve

  • Technical experience writing production code for Oracle applications.
  • Expertise in Oracle databases (PL/SQL and SQL Plus).
  • Code management using GitLab, TOAD.
  • Experience in debugging and performance tuning PL/SQL code.
  • Experience with ETL processing, data extraction, transform, and load.
  • Linux skills desirable.
  • Proven experience producing high-level design documents.
