Thompson’s Gallery is seeking a dedicated and proactive Gallery Assistant to support the day-to-day operations of the gallery in Aldeburgh. This is a multifaceted role encompassing sales, administration, exhibition planning, logistics, marketing, and client relations.
Location: Aldeburgh, Suffolk
Salary: Based on experience
Hours: PART TIME, 3-4 days a week 10am-5:30pm (day negotiable), 2 Saturdays a month required
Contract: Permanent with a probationary period of three months; review after one month. Ideal start date 1st May 2025.
Key Responsibilities:
- Client Liaison & Sales: Assist in developing sales strategies for in-person and online sales. Maintain the Artlogic database, ensuring accurate client, sales, and stock records. Provide high-quality service to clients, fostering long-term relationships.
- Exhibitions & Art Fairs: Support exhibition planning and delivery, including administration, research, logistics, catalogue design, and installation coordination. Assist with the organisation of art fairs, managing bookings, shipping, and participation.
- Logistics & Administration: Manage domestic and international shipping, including invoicing, packing, restoration, and insurance documentation. Assist with general office administration, maintaining efficient filing systems. Prepared to hang exhibitions and change window displays.
- Marketing & Communications: Collaborate with the social media consultant to provide weekly content. Draft and circulate press releases and exhibition announcements. Monitor and respond to general email enquiries.
- Director Support: Provide PA support to the Gallery Director.
Personal Qualities & Skills:
- Good knowledge of Art and interiors.
- Experience in a commercial setting gallery, auction house, or similar environment.
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), a willingness to learn Adobe Photoshop & Artlogic - our website management system.
- Exceptional organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Strong writing skills.
- Highly self-motivated with attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
