An OFSTED good school in Clapham is looking for a teaching assistant to join their thriving staff team for after the Easter break with the view to work for the rest of the academic year. A permanent contract is on offer for the right teaching assistant. The school is a highly creative, forward-thinking community school where, from the very start of their journey in nursery to when they leave in Year 6, the children are taught the skills and knowledge to succeed not only in school but in life.
Teaching assistants should carry unrelenting expectations of attainment and behaviour for every single pupil and integrate with the excellent staff team to share their passion for education and getting the absolute best for every child. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF A TEACHING ASSISTANT
- Teaching Assistant support for Pupils:
- Support pupils to make good academic progress, under the direction of the teacher and Inclusion leader.
- Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence.
- Implement group or 1:1 interventions to support pupils who have emotional or social barriers to learning.
- Establish constructive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
- Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
- Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans and assist with the display of pupils' work.
- Use strategies, under the direction of the teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals.
- Discuss with the teacher how learning activities are to be organised and what their own support role will be.
Qualifications needed as a Teaching Assistant:
- Essential:
- Good literacy skills - GCSE Grade C or above in English Language; Level 2 English or above; or equivalent.
- Good numeracy skills - GCSE Grade C or above in Maths; Level 2 Maths or above; or equivalent.
- An honours degree (preferably Upper Second) or equivalent.
