The Technical Consultant will have responsibility for the delivery of Research, Development & Innovation projects with industry within the SWC Business and Industry Support. The role will involve developing strong working relationships with industry and external agencies to ensure the needs of businesses across the region are well serviced. The candidate will bring new knowledge to industry partners whilst embedding this specialist knowledge into SWC curriculum delivery.
Contract length: Full Fixed Term Contract 12 months, with possible extension.
Responsible to: Innovation Manager
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and deliver to industry Research, Development and Innovation support services.
- Identify and secure funding for projects resulting in the generation of income and the meeting of Team Operational Targets.
- Procure, implement, manage and raise awareness of new technologies, hardware and software among the Business Development team, SWC students and staff.
- Prepare periodic reports for College Management on progress against targets.
- Develop working relationships with SWC partners to enable direct transfer of knowledge of the latest technologies into the College and the local industry base.
- Provide supervision for Student Interns and those on placement when necessary.
- Develop activities to meet the current and evolving needs of industry and the College.
- Assist with the marketing of SWC Business Development and Industry support.
- Visit industry, Colleges, Schools and other agencies to promote SWC business development and industry support events.
- Organise business focused seminars, workshops, CPD courses, and other events.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with other relevant organisations in Northern Ireland, nationally and internationally.
- Raise funding for significant new projects, resources and activities through bid and tender writing.
- Assist with administration and enrolment responsibilities as and when required.
General Responsibilities:
- Carry out regional market intelligence surveys and establish strategic partnerships.
- Promote and raise the profile of the College and the services it provides to the local business and civic community.
- Comply with and actively promote College policies and procedures.
- Participate in staff training and development activities to update and enhance own knowledge, skills and professional competence.
Person Specification:
Essential Criteria:
- Relevant Degree qualification or equivalent in Sustainability, Sustainable Construction or similar.
- GCSE English Language and Maths at Grade A-C or equivalent.
- One years experience in the delivery of technical projects.
- Good organisational skills with the proven ability to prioritise and manage workloads to meet deadlines.
- Ability to analyse data and produce relevant accurate reports.
- Access to a car and able to travel between campuses and other business use as required.
Desirable:
- Experience in the areas of passive house would be an advantage.
Terms and Conditions:
- Salary: Band 5 Points 20-25 £31,586 - £35,235 per annum.
- Contract Type: Full Time Fixed Term Contract, 12 months with possible extension.
- Hours of work: 36 hours per week.
- Holiday Entitlement: 12 public holidays plus 24 days rising to 31 days after 5 years continuous service.
- Pension: The post-holder will automatically be enrolled in the NILGOSC pension scheme.
