Children’s Residential Practitioner (Waking Night) - Olive House, Southwark

Pay Rate: £22 per hour

It’s an exciting time to join Southwark Council as we prepare to open our very first children’s home - Olive House. We’re committed to helping our children stay close to home and thrive in a safe, familiar environment. We’re looking for compassionate and experienced Children’s Residential Practitioners (Waking Night) to help us make this vision a reality.

About the Role

As a key member of our residential team, you will provide overnight care and support to children aged 10-17 with social and emotional needs. Your duties will include:

  • Creating a safe, nurturing environment that encourages independence and emotional well-being.
  • Managing nighttime routines, offering reassurance, and responding to individual needs.
  • Providing support during crisis situations and ensuring children feel secure and cared for.
  • Carrying out domestic tasks to maintain a homely atmosphere.
  • Accurately recording events, updating care plans, and ensuring smooth handovers.
  • Administering medication in accordance with our procedures.
  • Participating in training, supervision, and team development sessions.

What We’re Looking For?

Essential:

  • Experience in a children’s residential setting (e.g., children’s home) - this is non-negotiable.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, child development, and trauma-informed care.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Calm and supportive approach in challenging situations.

Desirable:

  • Level 3 Residential Childcare qualification (or equivalent).

Additional Information

Shifts are typically 21:45 - 07:45, with potential for additional hours depending on service needs. Excellent transport links via bus and overground. On-site parking available. Competitive £22 per hour pay rate.
