We're hiring 2 Principal Engineers to join BAE Systems Submarines for a pivotal contract role focused on Integration & Test of complex electrical systems on one of the UK's most advanced defence programmes.

About the Role:

Are you a Systems Test Engineer with a background in control systems, rig design, and system validation? This opportunity sits within a team responsible for designing, commissioning, and operating state-of-the-art SIM/STIM test capabilities for Integration, Verification & Validation (IV&V) of submarine control systems. You'll help deliver a demanding test and acceptance schedule - working hands-on with test rigs, creating test scripts, and troubleshooting complex systems that directly impact platform manoeuvrability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop SIM/STIM test rigs and infrastructure.
  • Author, compile, and execute test scripts and test documentation.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults within complex system environments.
  • Define and deliver system integration and testing plans.
  • Support test hardware infrastructure and ensure safe operation.
  • Line management of junior test engineers (as required).

What You'll Need:

  • Strong technical background in complex engineering environments.
  • Experience in system integration, test planning, and acceptance.
  • Familiarity with SIM/STIM environments and test rig development.
  • Proven track record compiling and executing technical test scripts.

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of Defence/Industry standards (e.g., Def Stan 00-55/56, IEC 61508).
  • Experience with MathWorks tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink for control systems).
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards it (e.g., CEng, MIET).
  • Understanding of safety-critical system accreditation processes.

Qualifications:

A degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) or equivalent relevant experience.
