STS Group is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pre-Construction Manager with a strong electrical background to join our dynamic team. This individual will be responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the Pre-construction process, including estimating, budgeting, design coordination, value engineering, and procurement strategies for electrical systems in large-scale construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of electrical systems, exceptional project management skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, clients, and subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Pre-Construction Design Review: Technically evaluate and assess electrical design drawings and specifications from RIBA Stage 4. Confirm design compliance with industry and client standards and identify any scope gaps. Host Electrical Workshops to advance Design / Construction Issues.
- Containment: Loading Capacity Calculations, bracketry design, selection and sizing, validation of cable sizes using specific software, redlining of documentation for site use, development of systemised cable matrix and construction work packs.
- Knowledge and experience working with the following systems: Medium and Low Voltage Networks, Electrical Switchgear and Power Distribution, Instrumentation and control systems (BMS/PAS/EAS/PMS), Containment Systems and applications (Ladder/Tray/Basket/Trunking/Hycon), Life Safety Systems (Fire Alarm/Disabled Refugee/Smoke Vent etc), Security and Access Control, UPS Systems, Mechanical systems – electrical requirements, Emergency Lighting and Central Battery Systems, Gas Detection, Data & IT, Earthing and Lightning Protection, Cross System Electrical Integration.
- Pre-Construction Quality Implementation: Technical submittals, RFIs, First of Kinds, Early Procurement off LLE, Development of OFCI and CFCI schedules/strategies, Attend FATs and SATs, Implement and communicate design change control, Redlining of Drawings.
- Identify Value Engineering Opportunities: With cost savings and/or improve schedule, efficiency improvements, design alternatives which offer equal or better quality while reducing overall project costs.
- Risk Management: Assess potential risks related to electrical systems and propose mitigation strategies early in the project lifecycle.
- Vendor & Subcontractor Management: Engagement with specialist vendors for the procurement of equipment and services, ensuring adherence to project timelines and budgets.
- Client Communication: Reporting to STS manager and project clients during the Pre-construction phase, developing and performing presentations and delivering in a clear and professional manner.
- Scheduling & Timeline Development: Work with project managers to provide early input into schedule development.
- Compliance & Safety: Checking and validating electrical designs and specifications comply with current local building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.
- Estimating & Budgeting: Communicate any design changes with commercial implications to estimators/QS’s.
Qualifications:
- Minimum bachelor’s degree or better in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in electrical Pre-construction/engineering, project management, or a related role.
- Prior experience as an electrician would add to the previous requirements.
- Extensive knowledge of Industrial electrical systems, building codes, and construction processes.
- Strong understanding of estimating processes and cost control measures.
- Proficiency with Engineering software such as Procore, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, or similar tools.
- Proficiency with performing cable calculations, load flow and discrimination studies on software – i.e. Trimble, Amtech, ETAP, Intec etc.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills. Reporting and presentations will be necessary.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- PMP or other relevant certification is a plus.
