One of the Southwest's very top law firms is looking to hire a Legal Cashier into their busy and experienced accounts team. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to follow an accounts career pathway, within one of the most attractive employers in the region. Working within a modern, upmarket and professional environment, you will get the chance to work within a team of circa 10 people, where you will be able to continue learning and developing your skillset within legal accounts work. In an ideal world, we would very much welcome applicants with previous experience of working within a Legal Cashier role.
Responsibilities include:
- Drawing, recording and distributing cheques as required by fee earners and PAs to pay for business transactions and collecting and recording cheques received each day.
- Attending to payments by Telegraphic Transfers, BACS, Faster Payments and foreign currency transfer as and when required.
- Monitoring payments paid into and out of the Client Account strictly in accordance with the Solicitors Accounts Rules.
- Knowledge of VAT rules for billing in different jurisdictions and Third parties.
- Calculating and recording interest on monies held for Clients, both on a temporary and permanent basis.
- Making all necessary checks and entries to the firm's computerised accounts system ensuring that the firm's finances can be reconciled regularly and as necessary.
- Proactively keep the Head Cashier (and other team members) and internal clients updated on the progress of work as appropriate.
- Striving to provide the highest levels of support to both internal and external clients.
- Responding to queries in a timely manner by using effective communication methods both internally and externally.
- Producing high quality work, first time, in order to support fee earning capacity across the firm.
- Supporting other team members by sharing knowledge and ensuring own and other skills are developed.
- Developing and implementing ideas for improving service delivery or ways of working within the team.
- Checking of draft bills submitted by fee earners or PAs and ensuring your working practices are effectively supporting lawyers across the firm.
- Having an awareness of key financial targets and dates and work to support those.
Skills and experience sought:
- Ideally, you will have previous Legal Cashier experience, or similar.
- We might also consider people from a more general accounts background, although any legal knowledge would be very useful.
- A good team player and the ability to learn quickly.
- A credible, dynamic and effective communicator.
