We’re hiring a Senior Maintenance Technician to join the technical team at one of the UK’s most iconic public institutions, based in the heart of Central London. This is a rare opportunity to apply your mechanical and electrical expertise in a dynamic, visitor-facing environment, working behind the scenes to maintain and improve a wide range of interactive exhibits and engineering systems.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading the maintenance, repair, and optimisation of electromechanical installations, including interactive exhibits and gallery features
- Diagnosing and resolving faults across mechanical, electrical, and control systems
- Supporting exhibition builds, gallery refurbishments, and special projects from a technical perspective
- Co-ordinating with colleagues and external contractors to ensure all technical assets remain safe, operational, and compliant
- Assisting with installations, testing, and upgrades of equipment and systems
- Keeping accurate records of maintenance activities, faults, and resolutions
What We’re Looking For
- Solid hands-on experience in mechanical or electrical maintenance, ideally in a public, commercial, or engineering environment
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills across electromechanical systems
- Confidence using workshop tools and diagnostic equipment
- Knowledge of control systems, pneumatics, AV/IT, or PLCs would be advantageous
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset and a collaborative working style
Qualifications & Requirements
- Relevant engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, or equivalent experience)
- Health & Safety awareness; experience working to British Standards and compliance protocols is a plus
- You must have the right to work in the UK – sponsorship is not available for this role
