An established and Ofsted-rated 'Good' training provider is seeking a Lead Tutor – Functional Skills to take on a pivotal leadership role at their alternative education site in Thetford, supporting young learners aged 14–19. This provider offers tailored academic and vocational programmes for learners who may not thrive in mainstream education, helping them gain the skills and confidence needed for further education, employment, or apprenticeships. As Lead Tutor, you will oversee the day-to-day management of the educational setting, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and motivating environment for students with a range of complex needs and behaviours. Your leadership will guide both teaching staff and learners towards success, focusing particularly on delivering high-quality GCSE Maths and/or English tuition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver GCSEs in Maths and/or English
  • Build positive, supportive relationships with students and families/carers
  • Manage and monitor teaching timetables and staff deployment
  • Lead curriculum development in your subject area
  • Design and update schemes of work in line with current educational requirements

Leadership & Management

  • Monitor and report on performance data, addressing underperformance
  • Lead improvements in teaching quality through observations and mentoring
  • Set and monitor team KPIs, providing performance feedback and development
  • Support the training and development of teaching and support staff

What You’ll Need

  • A recognised QTS qualification (or willingness to work towards it)
  • Designated Safeguard Lead (DSL) status or willingness to undertake training
  • Experience working with learners who have complex behavioural and learning needs
  • Proven line management experience, including setting KPIs and performance reviews
  • Strong understanding of differentiated teaching, learning strategies, and behaviour management techniques

  • You must hold a full UK driving licence and be willing to travel as required
