We are recruiting for a Skilled Manual Machinist for a leading manufacturer of high-performance valve solutions, based in West Moors, Dorset. This is a varied and hands-on role ideal for a detail-oriented and experienced machinist.
The successful candidate will primarily operate manual lathes, with time also spent on manual milling and lapping operations. Full training will be provided on lapping machines.
Pay: £16.00 to £19.00 per hour depending on experience
Hours: Monday to Friday
Key Responsibilities:
- Manufacture components through various stages of production
- Perform finishing operations on machined components
- Machine assemblies to precise drawing specifications
- Set and operate manual lathes and milling machines to tight tolerances and surface finishes
- Set and operate lapping machines (training provided)
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and job instructions
- Determine correct machine settings, speeds, and feeds based on material and finish requirements
- Use precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, height gauges) to verify part quality
- Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications
- Identify and report non-conformance or defects
- Carry out routine machine maintenance (cleaning, lubrication)
- Follow all health & safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE
Person Specification:
- Completed engineering apprenticeship or equivalent hands-on experience
- Proven experience with manual turning and milling
- Centreless grinding experience (desirable)
- Strong attention to detail and high standards of accuracy
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work well in a team environment
- Good understanding of workplace Health & Safety requirements
