About the Role:
The Business Development Manager plays a critical role within the Cornerstone Sales & Commercial Team. The main purpose of the role is assisting the team to establish strategic partnerships with key stakeholders across commercial Mobile Operations, including Networks, Planning, Business and Executive functions, to drive sustained revenue growth and secure mutually beneficial contracts for Cornerstone.
The Business Development Manager will report to the Head of New Business and support in strategically leading and shaping the team to develop value propositions and managing the sales cycle from initial contract through to contract closure and driving the business to exceed sales targets, driving overall business revenue and growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning: Develop and implement business development strategies focussing on identifying new growth opportunities and customers, increasing company revenue and expanding market share.
- Market Research & Analysis: Identify and evaluate market trends, competitors, and customer needs to inform business strategy and target high-potential sectors.
- Pipeline Development: Build and manage a robust pipeline of business development opportunities and customers, ensuring consistent progress through all stages of the sales cycle.
- Commercial Modelling and Analysis: Develop commercial models for new business areas and customers, working closely with Finance Business Partners to assess potential revenue, EBITDA and risks, evaluate the commercial viability, and ensure alignment with strategic objectives to support decision making.
- Business case development: Develop robust commercial business cases to support business development opportunities, outlining potential revenue and costs, and presenting data-driven recommendations to Leadership for approval.
- Customer Relationship Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with new and existing customers, stakeholders and partners, always ensuring a customer-centric approach.
- Collaboration with Internal Teams: Work closely with other Cornerstone departments such as Demand, Delivery, Legal, Procurement and Finance to ensure early understanding and alignment on business development efforts and the required engagement and hand-offs to drive success.
- Reporting & Analysis: Provide regular reports on business development activities, pipeline status, and team performance to the Leadership.
- Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Encourage innovative thinking and continuous process improvement within the team to enhance processes, efficiency and outcomes.
- Lead and Mentor Early Careers Talent: Oversee a team of recent graduates, interns, and/or junior staff, providing guidance, training, and development opportunities. Allocate work, ensuring each team member is equipped with the skills and knowledge to succeed in business development roles.
- Performance Management: Set clear goals and KPIs for direct reports, monitor performance, and provide continuous feedback to drive growth and improvement.
- Training & Development: Create and implement structured training programs for the early careers team, ensuring their professional growth and long-term success.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience in business development, sales, or a related field, with experience in leading and developing teams. Experience in working with early career professionals is highly desirable.
- Strategic Thinker: Strong strategic planning and organisational skills, with a proven ability to execute complex business plans.
- Client-Focused: Proven track record of building and maintaining client relationships.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze market data, identify opportunities, and implement data-driven strategies.
- Excellent Communication: Superior interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Leadership & Mentorship: Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and develop junior team members.
- Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and handle multiple priorities effectively.
- Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with CRM software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other business tools
