GSL Education are seeking a compassionate and experienced Specialist Teaching and Learning Assistant to support students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a welcoming and inclusive school environment in Chesterfield. This role requires flexibility, dedication, and a proactive attitude plus the ability to travel where needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships to help pupils feel safe, understood, and motivated.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies and support emotional regulation.
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging lessons and adapting content to individual learning styles.
  • Travel between school sites or to off-site provision, as required.
  • Work closely with SENCOs, teaching staff, and external professionals to deliver holistic support.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with SEMH, or additional learning needs is essential.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Strong communication skills, resilience, and empathy.
  • Ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations.
  • A team player who can also work independently when needed.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
