ACCA is committed to a workplace culture which is inclusive, diverse, human and connected. We are currently recruiting for a Qualification Content Lead - Taxation on a full-time, permanent basis. We are flexible on the location of this role as we operate a 'digital first' approach.

The QCLs form an essential part of the ACCA Qualification team, leading our external examining team members to deliver business relevant, first-choice examinations for future ACCA members and additional qualifications required by existing ACCA members globally.

The Job

  • Holds ultimate responsibility ensuring exams in your portfolio (which will predominantly be comprised of ACCA tax variant exams but include supporting work in relation to the UK tax exams) are fit for purpose.
  • Develop exam models for each exam session, recognising multiple complex factors including the content and style of the exams, the relevance, level and syllabus coverage and consistency within exams as necessary.
  • Lead other members of the examining team through this process and liaise with them on proposed changes.
  • Actively contribute to the finalisation of exams at the exam panel meetings where required.
  • Ensure you are up to date with developments in the profession which relate to your subject discipline, including any legislative or regulatory changes.
  • Utilise your up-to-date knowledge to develop both new syllabus content and new examination content and ensure the examining teams fully understand what is required of them whenever such changes are required.
  • Contribute to the development and technical content of compulsory interactive learning modules.
  • Play a key role in the design and creation of learning support products aimed at meeting the needs of education providers and learners, hence contributing to progression to membership, exam entry and the recruitment of new future members.
  • Ensure all examinable documents are kept up to date, technical articles are sourced or written, where needed, to explain new legislation or other rules and create and deliver presentations to explain relevant changes in your technical area.
  • Review statistical analysis of exam question performance and provide feedback to ensure robust and fair results. Use this analysis to assist in the development of future exam content where necessary.
  • Play a key role in the selection and management of suitable examining team members and contribute to the training of, and feedback to them.
  • Attend marking standardisation meetings for your portfolio of exams after each exam session where required, contributing to the process to ensure exams are marked fairly and to the standards required by ACCA.
  • Carry out and quality assure updates of specimen exams and recognised content reviews, to ensure learning materials carrying the ACCA logo are fit for purpose.

The Person

  • A professional accountancy, and/or tax qualification or equivalent, obtained mainly with good first time passes and post qualification tax experience, either in practice or via teaching, is desirable.
  • Strong academic background, including good class of degree.
  • Strong technical understanding of the relevant syllabus subject (Taxation).
  • Excellent attention to detail in relation to numerical accuracy, adherence to house style and consistency across different exams.
  • Experience of working in an educational environment desirable in order to have a clear understanding of levels at which each exam is set.
  • With training, the ability to balance multiple exams across a session for CBE provision to ensure that all are at the same standard.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships with colleagues and external contacts including those working at partner level in accounting practice or professors in academia.
  • The ability to deal effectively with large volumes of work to strict deadlines by having a well organised, logical and methodical approach, managing self and others.
  • Very good word processing and Excel skills and desire to work with technologies to incorporate spreadsheet and similar IT skills within exams and enthusiasm to work with design of templates for new question types.
  • Professionalism to act as an ambassador for ACCA in external meetings such as the Annual Tutor Conference, marking standardisation meetings, regulator meetings etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
