The Opportunity: A global leader in space and satellite systems—operating at the intersection of defence, earth observation, and next-gen SATCOM—is seeking a Senior Satellite Communications Systems Engineer to drive the design and delivery of high-resilience satellite networks and services.
Role Overview: Join a high-performance engineering team shaping the future of secure global connectivity. You’ll work directly with commercial, defence, and space-sector clients to architect, design, and deliver integrated SATCOM systems—from initial concept to operational deployment. You’ll tackle complex RF and IP network challenges, lead real-world system deployments, and take full ownership of mission-critical comms infrastructure. If you’re tired of being stuck in spec reviews or sidelined by bureaucracy, this is your chance to lead systems that launch into orbit and deliver under pressure.
Responsibilities:
- Architect, design, and validate advanced SATCOM systems across space and ground segments
- Define system-level requirements, interface control documents (ICDs), and integration strategies
- Perform RF link budget analysis, coverage modelling, and bandwidth planning for LEO/MEO/GEO systems
- Integrate IP networking and cyber security protocols into SATCOM infrastructure
- Lead system integration, factory/site acceptance testing, and in-orbit testing phases
- Engage directly with customers to capture mission needs and translate them into engineered solutions
- Contribute to proposals, R&D, and technical strategy across the communications domain
Key Requirements:
- 5–10 years' experience in SATCOM or space systems engineering
- Deep understanding of end-to-end satellite communications architectures
- Expertise in RF systems, ground station infrastructure, payload design, and networking protocols (IP, TCP/UDP, VPNs)
- Strong systems engineering background (requirements, design, V&V, documentation)
- Familiarity with secure communications (COMSEC/INFOSEC) and defence-grade SATCOM systems
- Excellent communication skills and technical leadership experience
- Degree in Communications Engineering, Aerospace, or related field (BSc/MSc/PhD)
Benefits Package:
- Base Salary: Up to £80,000 (DoE)
- Pension: Up to 15% employer contribution
- Hybrid Working: 1 day/week in Luton
- Green Car Scheme
- Private Medical Cover + Additional Financial, Physical, and Lifestyle Perks
