We Build is now recruiting for a Groundworks Project Manager on behalf of our client, a leading provider of construction and civil engineering services specializing in groundworks, drainage, foundations, and infrastructure projects. The Groundworks Project Manager will oversee the day-to-day management of groundworks projects from inception through to completion. You will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety. As a key member of the project team, you will work closely with clients, contractors, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure smooth project execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Planning & Execution: Develop and implement detailed project plans, ensuring all tasks are completed in line with timelines and budgets. Coordinate and manage all groundworks activities, including site preparation, excavation, drainage, foundations, and utilities installation. Oversee the procurement and management of materials, machinery, and manpower.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and supervise on-site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure efficient delivery of work. Ensure all staff and subcontractors are fully compliant with health and safety regulations. Provide regular training and development opportunities to on-site teams.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure all groundworks activities comply with legal, regulatory, and company-specific safety standards. Conduct regular site safety inspections and risk assessments. Promote a proactive safety culture on-site and ensure incident reporting procedures are followed.
  • Stakeholder Management: Maintain strong communication with clients, ensuring project requirements are understood and met. Liaise with local authorities, planning teams, and regulatory bodies as necessary. Ensure all project documentation is maintained accurately, including risk assessments, method statements, and progress reports.
  • Budget & Cost Control: Monitor project budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources. Prepare and submit regular progress reports on cost, schedule, and quality to senior management. Identify any potential cost overruns or project delays and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Quality Control: Ensure all groundworks are carried out to the highest quality standards. Review and approve work completed by subcontractors and suppliers. Implement and monitor quality control procedures, ensuring compliance with specifications.
  • Project Reporting: Prepare and present regular project status updates to senior management and clients. Address and resolve any issues or delays, providing solutions and alternative courses of action when necessary.

Key Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience in groundworks or civil engineering projects, with at least 2 years in a management role. Proven track record of successfully managing groundworks projects from start to finish.
  • Qualifications: Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred). Relevant certifications (e.g., SMSTS, First Aid, CSCS) and knowledge of health and safety legislation.
