Knowledge and Innovation Attorney (“KIA”), London team - Global Finance (GFin) practice group. The KIA will support GFIN with their knowledge management and innovation needs. The KIA will serve as a legal knowledge, market, and practical resource to the practice group, primarily responsible for implementing and managing knowledge management and innovation projects and priorities for GFIN. This includes collecting, organizing, curating, and maintaining core practice content and “know how” (e.g. model and form documents, thought leadership materials, trainings, and substantive client presentations); capturing, maintaining, and optimizing experience data; sharing knowledge across the group; keeping attorneys abreast of current practice trends and developments; supporting substantive training initiatives; and identifying attorney practice pain points for improvement with technology.
The role sits within the Knowledge & Innovation team, part of the Practice Innovation & Legal Solutions Department. The KIA will:
- Assess GFin’s knowledge needs, and define and implement a plan to meet those needs;
- Work closely with our GFIN lawyers to collect and maintain deal experience data leveraging the firm’s experience platform (Foundation) and custom matter intelligence dashboard;
- Curate, review, update, and maintain finance terms and lead on related benchmarking activities;
- Promote and encourage use of the Firm’s new Knowledge Management system within GFIN, and maintain and continuously update content within the system;
- Work closely with the US based GFIN KIA, especially with respect to the Firm’s initiative around League Table reporting;
- In coordination with our GFIN lawyers, draft, update and manage model documents, forms and templates, internal and client facing memoranda on practice legal issues, practice process checklists, and other required knowledge assets;
- Collect, curate, and contribute content to contributing articles, client presentations, client alerts, and other content that position the Firm as a thought leader;
- Monitor and share with practitioners recent, relevant legal developments and current market practice developments and trends;
- Provide direct support to individual GFIN practitioners to assist them with legal queries as well as locating practice-related internal and external knowledge resources;
- Identify practice-related training needs and coordinate with attorneys, Talent Development and Business Development to organize, design and deliver relevant training for associates;
- Provide regular training on legal issues as well as training on knowledge resources and innovative technology solutions to practice area lawyers and paralegals;
- Coordinate with peers in other practice areas to exchange best practices in knowledge resources developed by each area;
- Work beyond scheduled hours as necessary and travel as required.
Technology and Innovation
- Identify practice pain-points and use cases for legal technology tools, and recommend solutions, and contribute to the design and development of legal tech solutions, including facilitating administration of pilot plans or proofs of concept, communicating and driving adoption around launch of new solutions;
- Help evaluate emerging technologies and propose their potential applications in legal processes;
- Support and collaborate with colleagues in the Practice Innovation & Legal Solutions Department to promote and support Department-wide initiatives;
- Participate in the continuous development of internal policies and processes to foster innovation and best practice KM;
- Foster relationships with industry peers, legal technology providers, and other stakeholders;
- Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and best practice sharing amongst practice areas and the global KIA team.
Qualifications
- Prior experience practicing leveraged finance at a leading City firm and familiarity with industry (e.g., LMA) documents (required);
- PSL experience in the leveraged finance practice of a leading City firm (preferred);
- Advanced knowledge of the workflows and core needs of leveraged finance lawyers;
- Proficiency in developing training curricula and learning and development best practices;
- Advanced proficiency in delivering legal training as well as researching and drafting relevant legal documents and content;
- Ability to handle multiple projects, and prioritize effectively;
- Ability to work independently, and collaborate as a team member;
- Desire for continuous learning, demonstrating a clear interest in, and ability to adapt to, new technologies;
- Admitted to the Law Society of England and Wales (required);
- At least 5 years PQE experience practicing leveraged finance at a leading City firm (required);
- Previous leveraged finance PSL experience (preferred).
