Principal Fire Consultant | Shape the Future of Fire Safety

My client is looking for experienced and driven Principal-level professionals to join their expanding teams across Kent, London, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, and Belfast. As a leader within a dynamic fire safety consultancy, you’ll take on some of the most high-impact projects in the industry, while playing a vital role in developing future talent through mentoring and strategic guidance.

If you’re seeking a role where you can combine technical excellence with leadership and make a real difference in shaping safer built environments—this is your opportunity.

Why Advance Your Career Here?

More than half of the current senior leadership team began in junior roles. With clear progression pathways, this is an organisation where your career can flourish. You’ll be supported through professional development and mentoring, especially if you\’re working toward Chartered status, with access to seasoned experts including former chartership panel members and over ten currently Chartered Engineers.

My client is one of the foremost fire consultancy practices in the UK and Ireland. Known for design-focused, innovative solutions, they’re trusted by some of the most prominent clients in the property and infrastructure sectors.

Your Impact as a Principal or Associate

As a Principal, you’ll take the technical lead on high-profile and complex projects, collaborating with other specialist teams including Engineering, Assurance, Facades, and Structures. Your influence will extend beyond projects, helping drive business growth and building long-lasting client relationships.

This is a unique chance to grow your career within a diverse and supportive environment that genuinely values doing the right thing—for its people, its clients, and the communities it serves.

What You\’ll Be Doing

This role suits someone who thrives on both technical delivery and team leadership. As a Principal Fire Consultant (Engineer/Surveyor/Advisor), you will be responsible for overseeing the full lifecycle of technically challenging projects, managing teams, and acting as the day-to-day project lead. You’ll also support the development of junior staff and contribute to business growth through client engagement and commercial awareness.

Core Responsibilities

  • Act as Project Manager and technical lead on large-scale or technically complex projects, from initial concept through to construction and completion
  • Guide and support Project Engineers/Surveyors/Consultants while reporting directly to the Project Director when needed
  • Manage smaller-scale projects independently, ensuring delivery on time, on budget, and to high quality standards
  • Maintain and build client relationships, securing repeat business through high-value consultancy and communication
  • Play an active role in business development, including networking, identifying new opportunities, and pitching for work
  • Mentor and coach team members to support their technical growth and career development
  • Oversee team resourcing, workload distribution, financial performance, and pipeline planning
  • Stay current with industry developments, legislation, and best practices—and share this knowledge to support company-wide excellence
  • Manage commercial aspects of project work, including risk, performance, invoicing, and resource planning
  • Deliver consultancy services with professionalism, integrity, and a focus on long-term outcomes for clients

What You’ll Bring

  • A relevant degree in Fire Engineering, Building Services, or similar (BEng Hons, MEng, MSc, or equivalent) accredited by the Engineering Council
  • Membership or associate membership of IFE, CABE, Engineers Ireland, or a similar recognised professional body
  • A clear path toward Chartered status (working toward or already holding Interim CEng is ideal)
  • Proven experience leading complex projects across different stages of the building lifecycle
  • Strong client-facing communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • A commitment to ethical practice, continuous improvement, and mentoring future professionals
