LHH is supporting our international client who provides automated Packing and Palletisation lines to a variety of FMCG companies who supply Meat, Cereals, Pet Food, Cosmetics, Personal and Domestic Hygiene products as they recruit a Field Based Automation Engineer for a permanent role. The position covers The Midlands, Manchester, Liverpool, and surrounding areas.

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will implement and start up automation tasks according to project plans, including PLC programming (Rockwell, Siemens, B&R), communication bus, VFD programming, and network switches.

Responsibilities include:

  • Setting up interlocks with third-party equipment
  • Integrating automation peripherals (labellers, checkweighers, barcode readers, vision cameras)
  • Interpreting and supervising electrical schematics
  • Coordinating contractors
  • Starting up and commissioning projects at customer sites
  • Documenting equipment and projects
  • Training operators and supervisors
  • Servicing existing equipment by identifying errors, determining root causes, and implementing preventive actions

Candidates should have a relevant Engineering Degree or equivalent in fields such as Automation, Industrial, Electronics, Industrial and Automatic, or Computer Science. They should possess knowledge of PLC programming (codesys, ladder language), experience in a similar role, and a customer-focused orientation.

Desirable skills include C++ programming, JavaScript, servomotor, robotics, and automation. Must be a flexible and cooperative team player.
