Applications are invited for the substantive replacement post listed above. The successful candidate will join a close-knit department of paediatricians/neonatologists working across both acute (hospital-based) and community settings. The successful applicant will allow the organisation to maintain its current staffing levels of 8 individuals (7.5 WTE) which will enable the service to continue to meet the standards laid out by the British Association of Perinatal Medicine (BAPM) guidance and Scottish Government’s document “The best start: five-year plan for maternity and neonatal care”.

The post-holder will join an established team of senior clinicians providing clinical neonatal services in NHS Fife. The unit functions as a Local Neonatal Unit within the Scottish Perinatal Managed Clinical Network. The Neonatal and Maternity services are located in the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy. There are approximately 2800-3000 deliveries annually which generate 400 – 450 admissions to the unit. The unit currently has 4 intensive care cots, 2 high dependency cots and 11 special care cots.

The successful applicant would be expected to contribute to the acute consultant of the week and on call neonates rota (currently 1 in 6.5/ reducing to 1 in 7.5 following recruitment) at the Victoria Hospital. A separate paediatric rota is in place. The post would include the opportunity to develop a special interest to complement the needs of the department. An interest in cardiology and the ability to perform echocardiograms is desirable.

Paediatrics/neonates at Victoria Hospital is a dynamic, well supported and highly regarded service supporting the local population of Fife. You will join a friendly, experienced and supportive team of consultants. Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and be eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. Portfolio Pathway (formerly known as CESR - Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once it has been awarded. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training to Non-UK Applicants must demonstrate that they have the knowledge, skills and experience required for practising as an eligible specialist in the UK.
