Due to the upcoming recategorisation to a Category B Remand Prison, we have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our team at HMP Brixton. HMP Brixton will be a Category B male prison from April 2025 housing men on remand. Our patients' needs will vary greatly but there will be a focus on mental health, substance misuse and early days in custody.

Hours

We are looking for 3 days per week to be covered. There is flexibility in which days Monday to Friday that this is.

Salary

This position is part time working 22.5 hours per week. You’ll receive an annual salary up to £190,000 full time equivalent per annum - depending on experience.

What you’ll be doing:

As a Consultant Psychiatrist, your responsibilities will vary. You will:

  • Provide excellent clinical care, assessment and treatment to patients on the case load onsite
  • Actively participate in the strategic direction of the mental health service, lead the senior mental health clinicians on service developments and provide clinical supervision
  • Work within the multi-disciplinary team to review referrals, determine appropriate treatment plans, conduct risk assessments, and engage in multi professional complex case reviews.

Qualifications required:

  • Registered professional with current registration (GMC)
  • Specialist Registration in either General Adult or Forensic Psychiatry
  • Approved under section 12 (2) of the MHS 1983
  • Experience of working in a prison
  • Understanding of the complexities of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working
  • Up to date knowledge in adult psychiatry and PD
  • Awareness of current issues in mental health service provision, policy and legislation
