Main duties of the job:
  • Act as a consultant psychiatrist, approved clinician and responsible clinician on Garner Ward, within Bodmin Community Hospital.
  • Hold overall approved clinician and responsible clinician responsibility for all 16 patients on the ward and share the Section 12 and responsible clinician work with the other approved clinicians and responsible clinician.
  • Reviewing patients, liaising with their families and other professionals involved.
  • Give clinical supervision to the junior doctors.
  • Attend ward meetings, including board rounds and Future Care Planning Meetings.
  • Help formulate the treatment plan and give guidance on evidence-based treatment.
  • Maintain good relationships with ward team, fellow old age psychiatrists, multi-professional approved clinicians, and deprivation of liberty safeguard or Mental Health Act teams.
  • Very occasionally it is necessary to provide expert advice, as directed by the courts, on Trust patients.

Person Specification:

Qualifications and Training

  • Essential: Recognised Medical Degree, Full GMC Registration, Inclusion (or eligibility for inclusion) on the Specialist Register or a Specialty Trainee within 6 months of gaining CCT, Section 12 Approval.
  • Desirable: Relevant Higher Degree e.g., MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications, Completion of Clinical and Educational Supervisor Training, Approved Clinician status.

Experience

  • Essential: Knowledge and evidence of participation in CPD, Experience working in an Inpatient setting.
  • Desirable: Experience of working across different services within mental health, Other relevant experience, e.g., specific psychological therapies, Qualifications or experience in managing physical illness.

Skills

  • Essential: Previous experience in taking a leadership role in several multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring high quality care and staff morale, Ability to manage own time, workload and prioritise clinical work, Ability to appraise own performance, Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Desirable: Evidence of specific achievements that demonstrate leadership skills.
