Consultant in Urology

We are looking for a passionate individual who is required to fill a replacement post within the Urology Department at the St James\’s University Hospital, Leeds.
The successful candidate will be joining one of the biggest Urology Departments in the country which provides a wide range of urological services including secondary, tertiary, and regional care. The department has an excellent national reputation in Specialty Urological training and teaching.
Interviews will take place on Wednesday 28 May 2025.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is expected to be competent in all aspects of core Urology but also planning and able to develop a specialist interest to compliment the department. The post-holder will be expected to help the department continue to achieve a consultant delivered service and to help meet the different government targets. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.
The successful applicant should possess FRCS (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.

In relation to this post, the department is seeking to expand its current Consultant Urologist workforce in order to provide increased capacity to deliver rising levels of demand. It is important that the post holder helps to contribute to the advancement of safe, effectively and timely care as well as helping to deliver against performance targets and financial sustainability.
This is a substantive (10 PA) consultant post within the Urology department at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, with a subspecialist interest in Female, Functional & Reconstruction. The appointee will join a team of seventeen Consultant Urologists, two Locum Consultants and one Specialist Doctor in Urology who currently provide secondary urological care for the people of Leeds and tertiary urological care for the people of Yorkshire and beyond. The department is split into further Subspecialist Teams.

Essential

• Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Urology.
• Specifically, he/she must demonstrate higher specialist training in Urology.
• Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.

• Understanding of current issues in the NHS.
• *Well organised and skilled in good time management.

• *Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
• *Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via:
• -CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) CESR (or) international applicants should comply with the GMC specialty registration process. CESR applicants must be on the relevant Specialist Register at the time of application.

Desirable

• Attendance at recognised management course.

Qualifications
Essential

• MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
• MRCS or equivalent qualification.
• FRCS (Urol).
• Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.
• YOUR GMC NUMBER MUST BE STATED IN FULL ON YOUR APPLICATION FORM.
• Eligibility to work in the UK.
• Is up to date and fit to practise safely.

Training, Research, Teaching & Audit
Essential

• Should have completed a recognised training programme in Urology (UK CCT, CCST or equivalent).
• Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
• Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
• Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.

Desirable

• Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
• Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.
