The Department of Paediatrics at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant in Paediatric Allergy to join the dynamic, enthusiastic and forward-thinking team. There is no on call commitment. We are currently part of the South London Paediatric Allergy Network which includes the Services at the Evelina Children's Hospital at St Thomas's and at Kings College Hospital.

Main duties of the job

  • Outpatient clinics: The post holder will hold up to two Paediatric allergy outpatient clinics per week. This will primarily be held in the Dragon Children's Centre, on site, but with the option for outreach outpatient clinics.
  • Day case supervision: The post holder will be responsible for supervision of food challenges on one day per week on the Paediatric Day Ward (Jungle Ward).
  • Provide High Quality Care to Patients: The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration and hold a license to practice. To develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post. To ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care Programmed Activities. To ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.

Research, Teaching and Training

  • Where possible to collaborate with academic and clinical colleagues to enhance the Trust's translational research portfolio, at all times meeting the full requirements of Research Governance.
  • To provide high quality teaching to medical undergraduates and members of other health care professions as required by the Clinical Director.
  • To act as educational supervisor and appraiser as delegated by the Clinical Director to ensure external accreditation of training post.

Person Specification

  • Essential: On GMC Specialist Register or within six months of attaining CCT. MRCPCH by examination or equivalent.
  • Desirable: Higher degree eg MD, PhD in Allergy relevant area.
  • Essential: Experience of working in paediatric allergy, preferably in a recognised paediatric allergy centre. Either SPIN or Subspecialty training.
  • Desirable: Accredited Subspecialty Training in PAIID, with extensive experience of supervising high risk food/drug challenges.
  • Essential: Ability to manage full range of severe and complex allergy in children. Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team. Ability to plan and participate in the training of clinical staff. Valid Level 3 safeguarding training. Valid BLS certificate. Peer reviewed publications. Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff.
  • Desirable: Valid APLS and NLS training. Experience of clinical governance, audit and management. Understanding of principles of audit. Appropriate IT skills required.
