Located within High Gosforth Park, Newcastle Racecourse is home to the historic Northumberland Plate, and is one of Britain's busiest racecourses, hosting over 60 all-weather and jumps fixtures a year. An ideal venue for all occasions, the racecourse can host events of all kinds, including conferences, exhibitions, weddings, private parties and more.
About the role: As the Stable Manager you will be responsible for managing all maintenance, preparation and presentation of the racecourse stables. You will be required to liaise with the Clerk of Course regarding any additional staffing requirements to ensure stables are turned around efficiently for the next race meeting, ensuring the stables have been cleaned out to a high standard.
You must continually review working practices in each area, challenging historic practices and looking for improved methods of work and ensuring that problems found in any of the above areas are either dealt with and resolved immediately or reported to the Clerk of the Course or the Estates Manager.
Responsibilities for the successful Stable Manager include (but are not limited to):
- Take full responsibility for the Stables, Veterinary Treatment box and Sample area
- Maintain correct documentation & registers
- The Stables ground & surrounding area
- The Stables office
- CCTV
- Liaise with Hostel/Inn manager regarding staff requirements
- Ensure the stables have been cleaned out to a high standard according to the BHA guidelines and ARC Standard
- Under the direction of the Clerk of the Course, carry out a maintenance programme for the course
The work entails working outside in changing and often inclement weather conditions and can be physically demanding. You will be required to use various gardening, agricultural equipment, machinery, vehicles and chemicals in the process of carrying out your duties. Abide by all regulations and safe working practices in accordance with current legislation and as detailed in the Company’s Health and Safety Policy and Procedures.
Due to the nature of this role, working unsocial hours will be a frequent occurrence, including late evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.
