Responsible to: Technical & Compliance Director
JOB PURPOSE
- To ensure on time delivery of Right First Time compliant detail designs.
- Ensure High Level of Quality of drafting output (both in-house and outsourced).
- To provide support and advice to other members of the business in regard to task planning drawings.
- To ensure work is completed efficiently to project timescales and to acceptable standards.
- To promote value engineering activity and cost reduction at all levels.
- To ensure staff work in accordance with company procedures.
- Maintaining relevant processes and updating as necessary to fulfil the business needs.
JOB ACTIVITIES
- Drafting / Checking
- Check and approve design definition models, manufacturing drawings and ensure quality and consistency of all detail definition output.
- Manage subcontract detail design from a technical aspect - to be effective and efficient.
- Ensure drafting work is using the correct information to produce design definition (e.g. design intent, standards).
- Ensure drafting is produced in line with processes.
- Ensure Product Definition meets Fit, Form and Function as defined in Design Intent.
- Carry out duties of mechanical draftsman, as required to support business needs.
- Support capability management of drafting resource.
SUPERVISION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work on own initiative in a team environment.
- Responsible to Technical Director for all aspects of drafting capability and detail design quality output.
- To identify and implement improvement initiatives in regard to detail design.
- To liaise with external drafting resource and provide principal point of contact for technical queries.
GENERIC CONDITIONS
- Promote and represent CDL when required, setting a good personal example at all times.
- Take all possible and reasonable steps to create a harmonious working environment using effective communication and team working techniques.
- Be aware of, and adhere to, current policies and procedures.
- Undertake duties as may be required within capabilities consistent with the Terms and Conditions of employment and responsibilities in accordance with UK and EC Laws.
- Undertake tasks and responsibilities assigned by the line manager.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
- Desirable: Mechanical Engineering Degree/HNC, Good pass grades at Advanced level mathematics and physics.
EXPERIENCE
- Essential: Experience in a responsible mechanical engineering position, Understanding of mechanical engineering principles and process, Detail design checking experience.
- Desirable: Design of fabrication details.
