GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary) to work within a supportive school environment in Newcastle. This role is ideal for individuals who are dedicated to supporting young learners in overcoming educational barriers and achieving emotional and academic growth. As a SEMH Primary TA, you will support primary-aged pupils with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties in both one-to-one and small group settings. Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO, you will play a key role in managing behaviour, promoting emotional well-being, and helping students engage with learning in a positive and structured environment. Key Responsibilities: Provide individualised support to pupils with SEMH needs across the primary age range. Assist in implementing behaviour strategies and emotional regulation plans. Create a safe and nurturing classroom environment that promotes learning and emotional development. Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external professionals. Track progress and support the development of each child’s personal and academic goals. Actively contribute to planning interventions and reviewing pupil progress. Job Requirements: A relevant qualification in education, psychology, counselling, or child development (e.g., CACHE Level 3, NVQ, degree in a related field). Previous experience supporting children with SEMH needs in a school, alternative provision, or youth work setting. Strong understanding of the primary curriculum and how to adapt learning for children with SEMH challenges. Ability to implement behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques. A strong understanding of attachment theory, trauma-informed practices and behaviour management strategies. Resilience, patience and a nurturing approach to supporting young learners. Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff and parents. Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one). What does GSL Education Offer?
