This role would suit a proven engineering leader with a strong technical background gained within the EV powertrain domain. Most important: The role requires strong technical knowledge of electrified powertrains (electric motor and/or inverter) in addition to experience of taking such products into production.

This role exists within an established, innovative automotive technology company. As chief engineer, you will work with the CTO and a team of multiskilled engineers to take prototype/concept electric powertrain systems into production. This will require an excellent understanding of DFM, NPI, PPAP and IATF16949 processes and systems.

  • Excellent technical leadership skills – mentoring and guiding technically
  • Strong technical skills – excellent deep understanding of electric powertrain/EDU systems (electric motor, inverter, etc). An appreciation of electronics, mechanical engineering and/or software.
  • Product delivery – demonstrable experience of taking electric powertrain/e-motors/inverters from prototype into manufacture.
  • Excellent knowledge of DFM and NPI, also PPAP and IATF16949.

You will work alongside a team of engineers that will take new concepts, designs and research projects through to validated prototypes. Your role will be to introduce these prototypes into production (medium/high volume). This will require having a strong understanding of Electric Vehicle powertrain components and design (electric motor/inverter), DFM and NPI processes. In addition, a strong understanding of PPAP and IATF16949 will be needed.

NOTE: Some travel will be required to visit customers and facilities in Europe and Asia (typically 1-2 times per quarter).

  • A degree or masters in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g. automotive engineering, electronic engineering, software engineering, etc)
  • Excellent technical leadership and customer management skills
  • Strong technical skills – excellent deep understanding of electric powertrain/EDU systems (electric motor, inverter, etc)
  • Product delivery – demonstrable experience of taking electric powertrain/e-motors/inverters from prototype into manufacture (ideally automotive or other e-mobility sectors)
  • Excellent knowledge of DFM and NPI, also PPAP and IATF16949
  • Good commercial awareness and operations understanding (quality, supply chain, etc)
  • Firsthand experience of the design and development of electric drive units (electric motors/inverters) would be strongly preferred.

The company is involved with the design and manufacture of innovative electric vehicle powertrain systems for automotive electric vehicle applications. Hence candidates with direct experience of electric drivetrain/EDUs (electric motor/inverter) would be required.

This Chief Engineer role is commutable from Basingstoke, Alton, Farnham, Farnborough, Woking, Guildford, Petersfield, Camberley, and Winchester. NOTE: Work visas can be supported for the right candidates. There can also be assistance with relocation pending individual situations.
