Aircards is a creative technology company specializing in immersive experiences across Mixed Reality (AR / VR / XR), gaming, CGI, 3D virtual environments, and end-to-end production. With dual bases in Newcastle and New York, our client roster includes global leaders such as Diageo, Unilever, and Reckitt.
As a 3D Artist, you will play an active role in the creation of immersive WebXR, CGI, and game engine-based experiences. You will design, model, animate, and optimize 3D assets for a wide range of applications including virtual worlds, product visualisations, branded games, and cinematic content. This role offers the opportunity to develop skills across the production pipeline—from real-time engine workflows and headset builds to high-end CGI rendering and post-production VFX. You’ll work alongside a talented team of designers, developers, and technologists on exciting global campaigns.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop 2D and 3D concept visuals and pre-visualisation artwork
- Model, rig, texture, and animate 3D characters and environments for use in WebXR and game engine pipelines
- Prepare and optimize assets for deployment in Unity and Unreal Engine, including VR headset compatibility (e.g., Oculus, Vive)
- Contribute to VR/AR development workflows including spatial design and real-time interactivity
- Support cinematic and promotional CGI video content creation using industry-standard VFX techniques
- Apply lighting, particle systems, shaders, and compositing in both real-time and offline-rendered scenarios
- Implement UV mapping, texturing, normal/AO/roughness maps for high-quality visuals
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and incorporate feedback to refine visual outcomes
- Follow technical requirements, naming conventions, and versioning systems
- Stay up to date on XR/CGI industry developments, tools, and trends
Required Skills & Attributes
- Excellent visual storytelling and artistic judgement
- Experience modelling and animating 3D characters and objects
- Familiarity with Unity and/or Unreal Engine workflows
- Understanding of CGI and VFX pipelines including lighting, rendering, and post
- Knowledge of asset optimization for real-time and mobile platforms
- Ability to absorb and act on creative and technical feedback
- Collaborative mindset with good communication skills
Software Proficiency
- Maya
- Unity and/or Unreal Engine (including VR headset builds)
- Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere Pro)
- ZBrush or Mudbox
- Redshift, Arnold, or equivalent render engines
- Basic HTML/CSS and VSCode (advantageous)
Nice-to-Haves
- Understanding of Three.js, A-Frame, GLTF pipelines
- Familiarity with Blender, C4D, Houdini
- Familiarity with AI tools like MidJourney, DALL·E, Luma.ai
- Basic scripting skills (Python, CLI, Blueprint visual scripting in UE)
Experience & Education
- 2–4 years of experience in 3D modelling, animation, and production
- Proven delivery of projects using game engines and/or CGI workflows
- Degree in 3D Art, Game Design, Animation, VFX or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
