The Tritium Fuel Cycle is seeking a process/chemical engineer who is responsible for identifying solutions for the design, build, test and commissioning of tritium compatible fuel cycle experiments and associated equipment to deliver safe and operational facilities for tritium research.
Candidate will be responsible for working closely with cross functional teams and internal teams to develop appropriate process deliverables for experimental operations related to the use of Tritium in power generation and the process infrastructure that supports it. Example process deliverables include:
- Process Flow Diagrams (PFD)
- Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
- Heat and Mass Balance (H&MB)
- Control Philosophy/schemes
- Safety Assessments (e.g.: HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA)
Candidate will assist in producing technical tender documentation and tender packs to support the placing of design and supply contracts. These contracts will be for the procurement of sub-system design packages and engineering services. The appointee will work closely with the project management team and procurement department to ensure tenders are put to the market in a timely manner. Example documents include:
- PIN - Prior Information Notice
- ITT - Invitation to Tender
- Activity schedule / list of deliverables
- Compliance matrices
- Technical assessment questionnaires
Accountabilities:
- Provide support to a range of projects, ensuring timely delivery of work packages within specification, time, and budget.
- Provide technical support in the design, build, installation, test, commissioning, and operation of tritium compatible systems.
- Identify and apply appropriate research, design, development, testing, analysis, and evaluation to determine suitable engineering solutions in complex and representative environments.
- Demonstrate feasibility of processes taking into account operational safety, efficiency, controls, risks, limitations, accessibility and any other applicable requirements.
- Curation of supporting / reference documentation packs.
- Potential collaboration with other UKAEA departments (Central Engineering Unit (CEU), Office of the Chief Engineer (OCE), Procurement etc.)
- Tender review.
Qualifications Required: Chemical Engineering degree or other relevant.
Experience Required:
- Experience in scoping project deliverables for work packages.
- Experience in design or operation of process/chemical plants.
- Experience in nuclear fusion desired but not essential.
