Big projects. Bigger responsibility. Real impact. If you’ve been waiting for a role where your engineering know-how actually shapes the outcome of a project—not just a box-ticking exercise, but real involvement from concept to commissioning—this could be the one.
We’re working with a respected national contractor to find a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer who’s ready to take ownership of large-scale M&E projects, working as part of a well-established engineering division. This isn’t a behind-the-scenes technical role. It’s about being out there, making things happen, and being the go-to person who gets things done.
About the Company
Our client is part of a major UK construction and engineering group with a reputation for delivering high-spec projects across healthcare, education, defence, and commercial sectors. The engineering division is highly respected, working as a principal contractor on complex M&E builds where attention to detail and technical precision matter. The business has the scale and resources of a national contractor, but the engineering arm still runs with the agility and camaraderie of a specialist team. You’ll be working alongside experienced professionals who know what good looks like and genuinely care about the work they deliver.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing mechanical packages on major projects from design through to handover.
- Working closely with the Project Manager, Design Consultants, Subcontractors, and the wider M&E team to ensure mechanical installations are delivered to spec, on time, and to a high standard.
- Reviewing designs and technical drawings to ensure compliance and buildability.
- Managing procurement of mechanical equipment and materials.
- Liaising with suppliers, consultants, and subcontractors.
- Supporting the site team with technical guidance and coordination.
- Monitoring quality, health and safety, and programme milestones.
- Attending client meetings and representing the business professionally on-site.
- Producing technical submissions, RAMS, and progress reports.
You’ll be working on large, technically demanding schemes, often within secure or sensitive environments—the kind where attention to detail really matters.
Skills & Experience Required
- Experience delivering mechanical packages on commercial or public sector projects.
- Strong technical background in mechanical building services (HVAC, LTHW, domestic water etc.).
- Knowledge of current regulations and industry standards.
- Ability to coordinate with other disciplines and work collaboratively.
- Experience working with consultants and subcontractors.
- A proactive approach with strong organisational skills.
You’ll ideally have a relevant mechanical or building services qualification (HNC, HND, degree or equivalent), as well as experience working on projects of £5m+ in value.
Benefits
You’ll be joining a business that doesn’t cut corners. One that takes pride in delivering technically excellent projects, where engineering isn’t an afterthought but a core part of the process. You’ll be trusted to do your job, supported by people who know what they’re doing. You’ll have the opportunity to grow your career as part of a national contractor with a strong engineering reputation. There’s a competitive salary on offer, plus a solid benefits package. But more than that, you’ll be part of something you can be proud of—real buildings, real challenges, real engineering.
