12 Month contract (Inside IR35) £45.76 per hour umbrella

Hybrid Working (1 – 2 days per week on site)

This position holder will have proven technical capability and demonstrate exemplar behaviours as a role model within the team. Fully conversant with all Detail Design processes and Design Management Systems (LCM or process) and can advise and guide team members through application of them.

Works as part of a team with a high degree of technical autonomy, within established procedures and practices and will demonstrate technical leadership as Detail Design representative embedded within the Programme, using influencing and negotiation skills where required. Demonstrates technical leadership in performing a variety of the most complex tasks that require specialised field of knowledge and will use their judgement and experience to solve problems based on practice and precedent. Provides specialist technical advice and guidance to other professionals, technical staff and/or customers. On occasion may be required to assist Team Lead in the co-ordination of team members on a variety of typically routine tasks (but will not have direct reports).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Applying technical leadership and expertise to provide advice and guidance to other professionals within project/team.
  • Using the programme delivery plan, work with the Team Lead using technical expertise to prioritise team activities, ensuring schedule and cost effective working is delivered alongside quality expectations.
  • Act as a project focal point for discipline specific tasks, championing continuous improvement, ensuring best practices are adopted, and ensuring overall compliance to the discipline strategy.
  • Deploying high expertise in engineering toolsets including CAD and information management tools to deliver complex design activities through to completion.
  • Use knowledge and experience of the discipline to make technical decisions and facilitate problem-solving guided by policies, procedures and business plan.
  • Apply knowledge and experience of the design lifecycle, processes and systems of work and the value stream within the discipline.
  • Able to effectively escalate where appropriate complex design issues and advise Detail Design Management on proposed technical resolutions where there is an impact to predicted programme delivery plan.
  • Check, assurance and sign off of engineering deliverables and outputs against standards, rules and regulatory requirements.
  • Work within mandated design constraints such as design rules and acceptance requirements and manage non-adherence through the correct process.
  • Advise Line Manager and Technical Specialist of capability gaps and development needs of team so they can be addressed using training and development plans.
  • May act as an informal or indirect leadership resource, supporting activities such as skills coaching, mentoring and contributing to management reporting.
  • Role Model for Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) and associated activities.
  • Contribute to technical governance in line with Quality Management process through the checking of all engineering outputs (Including BOM), this may include delegation of associated tasks.
  • Advise Detail Design Technical Specialist and Engineering Management team on process improvements and LFE.
  • Assisting the customer through the approval process as compartment or system owners for spatial design.

  • Ability to communicate & exchange ideas effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Demonstrates influencing and negotiation skills where required.
  • Demonstrates customer focus, demonstrates diplomacy and tactfulness in customer communications.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate technical instructions.
  • Applies judgement to the selection of appropriate solution to problems, based on own knowledge and experience of similar situations and within the limits of documentation and governing processes.
  • Uses escalation procedures for emergent issues.
  • Requires completion of vocational training (Apprenticeship, Vocational Qualifications) or the equivalent experience.
  • Would be desirable if post holder has EngTech status or working towards IEng or CEng status (UK).
