Accountable to the Head of Engineering, the Engineering Manager is responsible for engineering management, oversight and challenge of third-party professional teams' and contractors' design solutions.
Responsibilities
- The Engineering Manager (EM) assists the Project Manager in ensuring the successful delivery of all engineering aspects of the project.
- Establish a safety-focused design gated process and define engineering lifecycle maturity gates, with targets aligned to the project's objectives and documented in the Project Engineering Management Plan.
- Provide guidance to the Project Manager on engineering risks and create strategies to mitigate them.
- Implement and control the design configuration, ensuring it is properly declared and maintained through authorized changes.
- Develop the design scope and support the creation of a strategy and plan to deliver the engineering elements of the project.
- Oversee the production of designs by sub-consultants.
- Ensure that design reviews, optioneering workshops, and value engineering workshops are conducted as per the Project Engineering Management Plan.
- Continuously review and update requirement plans as the design evolves, supporting the maturity and achievability of the requirements through formal reviews in line with the safety-led gated engineering process.
- Develop and execute design strategies and plans that align with the overall project strategy.
- Deliver engineering solutions, designs, specifications, instructions, and documentation that meet safety, legal, quality, and technical requirements, while being cost-effective and timely.
- Identify any gaps in technical knowledge and capability for the project and create targeted plans to address them.
- Ensure that design reviews are conducted at key stages in the lifecycle, with at least one review per year.
- Select a panel of independent reviewers with subject matter expertise.
- Ensure that issues identified during design reviews, which may impact other projects, are formally addressed, and contribute to the Lessons Learned and Feedback (LFE) process.
- Approve the design review minutes, confirming any recommendations or actions, and ensure that they are implemented.
- Conduct audits of design consultants.
