About the Role:
We are seeking a passionate and resilient English Subject Lead to join our specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) provision. This is a unique opportunity to shape the curriculum and inspire vulnerable learners in an alternative setting, where small class sizes (typically 6–8 pupils) and dedicated Learning Support Workers (LSWs) and Teaching Assistants (TAs) ensure tailored support.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead English curriculum delivery for KS3–KS4, adapting content to engage SEMH learners with diverse needs (e.g., trauma, anxiety, ADHD).
- Design individualised learning plans incorporating therapeutic strategies (e.g., mindfulness, sensory tools) to address barriers to learning.
- Foster a safe, inclusive classroom using trauma-informed practices and restorative approaches.
- Collaborate with TAs/LSWs and multidisciplinary teams (therapists, SENCOs) to holistically support student progress.
- Monitor and report on pupil progress, ensuring accreditation pathways (e.g., Functional Skills, GCSE) are accessible and motivating.
Ideal Candidate:
- Essential: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or ECT with SEMH experience/placement.
- A creative, adaptable teaching style to engage disaffected learners (e.g., through project-based learning, literacy interventions).
- Strong behaviour management skills and empathy for students with SEMH needs.
- Desirable: Training in Team Teach, PECs, or trauma-informed practice.
- Experience in alternative provisions or PRUs (Pupil Referral Units).
