Avtron are looking for a NPD Mechanical Engineer to work within our New Product Development (NPD) team. The individual will be responsible for defining, developing and delivering new and enhanced products that meet the needs of our customer base in a timely and cost-efficient manner to the correct performance, legislation and quality standards. They will ensure design intent is realised through timely interaction and communication with key customers, suppliers and internal cross-functional team members.
You will have experience in:
- Concept creation using market and customer requirements data.
- Getting involved in voice of customer (VOC) exercises as and when required.
- Mechanical design – lead the generation of mechanical designs using suitable analysis tools and creation of mechanical drawings, models and schematics using suitable CAD packages.
- Defining, leading and supporting product FMEA’s, validation and testing programs as required.
- System integration – ensuring products are designed for manufacture (DFM) and meet the expected performance targets plus outputs.
- Creation of engineering technical specifications and BOM’s.
- Creation of test reports and technical documents to support future customer product use.
- Identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement to enhance our future products by keeping abreast of new and emerging technologies.
- Ongoing system and process improvements to enhance the way we work and drive department/business efficiency.
- Ensuring product safety and compliance is achieved regarding agreed codes & standards (e.g. CE, UL, CSA).
Qualifications
- Suitable mechanical qualifications (e.g. BS / Beng Mechanical degree) plus proven industrial and product experience.
- 5 years plus working within an NPD role.
- A proficient & time-served user of Creo / Inventor or equivalent CAD package plus Microsoft 365. Professional Engineering (PE) status bonus.
Proven Skills
- Ideally electrical machine design experience linked to load banks, gensets, transformers and/or grid connect power transmission circuits and systems.
- Ideally, the ability to perform sizing calculations and studies using FEA and CFD analysis packages as well as hand calculations.
- A strong personality with energy, drive, adaptability, problem-solving and decision-making capability.
- Ideally, having worked with similar electrical products and can bring aligned and best practice experience to allow the continued growth of the engineering team/business.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written, comfortable presenting to and engaging with key working parties both internally and externally.
Personal Qualities
- Organised, self-disciplined, numerate, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to deliver in a timely manner as required.
- Both people and process orientated to help drive and achieve common goals through relationship building and collaboration.
