The Times and The Sunday Times are looking for a deputy head of SEO to grow our readership and drive subscriptions. You will be responsible for supporting the SEO editor with the day-to-day running of the SEO team for The Times and The Sunday Times and heading up initiatives to maximise search traffic. You will work alongside editorial, product, tech and data to report on performance and implement our strategy to optimise our website and journalism. Based in a fast-paced newsroom, you will share actionable insights and make recommendations on what stories we cover and how. This will involve communicating trends, giving feedback, writing headlines and making sure that high-quality internal links improve the reading experience. As well as acting as an authority in SEO best practice, you will be responsible for leading a training programme for reporters, editors and sub-editors.

  • In-depth knowledge of SEO
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Experience working in a newsroom
  • Strong SEO editing, optimising and digital headline writing skills
  • Experience working with Google Trends, Search Console and similar tools
  • Able to manage, motivate and develop a team
