About the role
A vacancy has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic person to join the Definitive Map Team at Cambridgeshire County Council. We maintain and develop the Council’s Public Rights of Way, Town and Village Green records and the Commons Register, achieving the best outcomes for our customers, residents and other stakeholders. Our role is to ensure that the Council’s records are accurate. We ensure applications to change public rights of way meet the legal tests and the Council’s policies. Applications for changes to the Definitive Map are investigated, reported upon and the statutory processes carried out. We respond to planning consultations so that the best outcomes for all stakeholders can be met. We work with the public, other council services, and other stakeholders in relation to these services. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive and flexible team who are protecting the public’s access whilst balancing the needs of landowners and development across the County. We recognise this is a relatively unusual role, so we will consider candidates with suitable transferable skills, and training will be provided.

About you
We are looking for a quick learner with excellent organizational skills and an appetite for professional development. A methodical and thorough approach is required to manage the Council’s records and casework. Experience and the ability to liaise knowledgeably with a range of stakeholders on complex issues and processes as well as a high standard of written and verbal communication is essential. You will be an adaptable team player with a supportive attitude and will demonstrate commitment to team working, enjoy being outside and have a passion for improving public access. Strong map reading and interpretation skills are essential, with experience of digital mapping desirable. Previous experience of working with public rights of way, records management, statutory processes or experience in dealing with historical documents, surveying and relevant legislation is desirable. However full training is provided on the job.
Please note that although based at Huntingdon Highways Depot, this is a hybrid role offering a mix of office- and home-working. The post-holder will be expected to travel around the county for site visits and customer and colleague meetings when required.
