About us

The Centre for Oral, Clinical and Translational Sciences (COCTS) brings together discovery and clinical scientists combining efforts aimed at improving oral and dental health through research and innovation leading to translation. The Centre is in an exciting phase of renewal with significant investment into state-of-the-art interdisciplinary science laboratories and support of translational and clinical research. Members of the centre have international reputations in mineralised tissue research, biomaterials, tissue engineering, device and diagnostic technology development, computer science and AI, and clinical research. Strong educational support is provided to both undergraduate and postgraduate students and we seek to appoint an academic that will strengthen and diversify the capacity of the centre in both research and education.

About the role

You will play a key role in developing and delivering internationally leading research as an independent investigator working collaboratively with clinician scientists.

You will have a strong research track record relevant to the centre’s core activities and have experience of leading interdisciplinary activities. You will be able to support undergraduate and postgraduate students undertaking research as part of their studies and will be expected to contribute to teaching on the pre-clinical dental (BDS) undergraduate curriculum in dental biomaterials, and on postgraduate taught master’s courses.

You will work to establish an independent research program that attracts external funding to support your activities in line with the expectations of the level of appointment. Although based in FoDOCS the post-holder will be encouraged to develop collaborations and complement King’s strengths across the wider college.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria:

  1. PhD or equivalent in relevant area.
  2. Experience at postdoctoral level or higher of training and supervision of undergraduate and master’s students.
  3. Strong record of publication of high-quality research outputs in leading specialist and non-specialist peer-reviewed academic journals.
  4. Appointments at Senior Lecturer and Reader will demonstrate successful completion of supervision of PhD students in previous roles.
  5. Appointments at Senior Lecturer/Reader will demonstrate prior competitively awarded research funding.
  6. Sound knowledge of research methodologies and governance requirements.
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  8. Evidence of a commitment to education of undergraduate and postgraduate students in a field relevant to oral and dental health.

Desirable criteria:

  1. Evidence of supervision of postgraduate research as lead supervisor (essential for SL/Reader).
  2. Experience of facilitating interdisciplinary research.
  3. Familiarity with the undergraduate dental curriculum in dental material sciences.
  4. Previous experience of translational research.
  5. Publications relevant to oral and dental research.
