Our client, a leading and fast-growing construction industry leader, is seeking a visionary and dynamic Data Protection Manager to oversee and manage data protection policies and practices, ensuring compliance with data privacy regulations and safeguarding sensitive information. Reporting directly to the Head of Compliance, the Data Protection Manager will play a crucial role in shaping the company's data vision, strategy, and execution.
Skills/Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of industry experience in data protection & privacy compliance or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in strategic orientation of data protection and transformation.
- Experience within a legal, risk management, or audit department.
- Strong project and team management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to create and present data protection reports.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and manage sensitive/confidential data.
- Ability to work well both individually and in a team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Fluent English and German language skills.
Responsibilities
- Ensure that the strategic orientation is in line with the companies’ vision and in compliance with law and regulation.
- Support the transformation process and ensure that data protection law/regulation are considered.
- Improve implementation of data protection with steps into the right direction.
- Align Data Protection Management System with the Information Security Management System.
- Ensure company policies comply with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and follow prescribed codes of practice.
- Oversee data protection governance for both new and existing initiatives/projects.
- Inform, advise & train data controller and other employees on GDPR compliance measures.
- Keep data processor/controller informed on all company matters related to data protection.
- Conduct regular audits to ensure data protection and privacy compliance and address potential data protection issues.
- Support external data protection audits conducted by external DPO or customers.
- Promote a culture of privacy and data protection compliance across all company teams.
- Keep stakeholders updated with regular reports on the organisation’s data protection strategies and policies.
- Act as the primary contact for the organisation, regulators, and public bodies on data protection policies and issues.
- Provide expert advice on the company’s data protection strategies and increase organisational awareness of data compliance requirements.
- Conduct training & support for employees directly involved in data processing, handling, and management.
- Handle data protection-related complaints and enquiries from the data processor/controller.
- Report any failures to comply with the data protection rules or GDPR to the management.
- Stay updated on data security news and trends to implement new technologies and improve data protection in the organisation.
- Maintain records of all organisational data processing activities.
- Coordinate compliance measures with the data protection authorities and serve as their point of contact in the organisation.
Preferred Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, or similar role/related field.
- A master’s degree in data protection and privacy or a similar role-related field preferred.
- Possess recognised privacy and data protection certification(s).
