Vital Energi are at the forefront of the UK's low carbon energy generating systems of the future. We essentially work in the construction industry, in a rapidly expanding market for Heat and Power Solutions from renewable energy. As a leading turnkey engineering contractor, we design, install, operate and maintain environmentally friendly energy generating systems and networks.
Due to Vital Energi's continued growth, we require Intermediate, Senior & Principal Mechanical Design Engineers, based at our Head Office in Blackburn or in our offices in Glasgow, Newcastle, Swansea and London to work in this exciting and growing sector of the industry.
The Role: These roles involve a broad range of detailed design including District Heating systems, energy centre design and HVAC / Building Services design. This will include taking concept designs and producing a fully detailed energy centre and district network design for the projects team to install. This will at times include initial project conceptual work, site investigations and surveys, client meetings and input into project submissions and presentations.
Key Duties: All subject to grade:
- Contribute or lead the design of distributed energy schemes, energy centres, DH networks up to the point of heat delivery, decarbonisation schemes
- Commercial awareness
- Awareness of traditional and new/emerging technologies and systems such as ground source heat pumps, air source heat pumps, CHP, boilers – gas & biomass, gas systems, steam (preferred not essential), flues and chimneys, LTHW & MTHW systems, ventilation systems, pumping, pressurisation & expansion, anchoring & expansion, general HVAC and building services
- Ability to design systems in the form of calculations, equipment selection and process operation
- Awareness and appreciation of other disciplines including electrical, structural and architectural
- Awareness of BIM and the ability to coordinate multi-disciplines with our in-house CAD team
- Awareness of good understanding of current Building Regulations, industry guidance such as CIBSE, BSRIA, RIBA Plan of Work, etc, and all pertinent legislation
- Undertake site inspection reports and providing technical support during construction
- Develop commissioning plans and oversee commissioning activities with internal and external commissioning engineers
The Person: The successful candidates will ideally be qualified at Degree level, with a minimum of:
- 2 to 4 years’ experience for Intermediate Engineer (qualified at Degree level or similar)
- 4 to 6 years’ experience for Senior Design Engineer (Chartered if possible but not essential, member of a recognised Institute)
- +6 years’ experience for Principal Engineer (Chartered)
