As a Partner in the Ashford, Tenterden & Whitfield Agency, you’ll have the opportunity to run and develop an existing business in partnership with the current Agents in the NFU Mutual Agency network. Deeply rooted within the local rural community, our Ashford, Tenterden & Whitfield Agency provides a solid foundation for you to build on. Well known locally, the agency team has a loyal customer base and provides services to an attractive mix of farming and non-farming businesses. Building on the success of the agency, you’ll have the opportunity to drive business growth beyond farming, tapping into local hotspots of high-net worth (HNW) and small to medium enterprises (SMEs) across a range of sectors.

Working within this highly supportive, loyal and active NFU branch, you’ll find plenty of growth potential. Whether you’re developing a relationship with a high-net worth client or sitting in a boardroom discussing an acquisition with a CEO, you’ll appreciate the issues your customers are facing and give them the support and advice they need.

About you

Ready to be your own boss, you relish the opportunity to create business plans and implement strategies that provide a professional and personal service to a range of customers, from high-net worth clients to farmers and commercial businesses. An excellent communicator, you’re great with people from a wide range of backgrounds and can easily spot opportunities and develop new business. A strong and professional leader, you’re a confident influencer who’s used to motivating a team. Collaborative, positive and supportive, you know how to recruit, reward and develop a strong team to help you achieve your ambitions whilst ensuring all relevant regulations and standards of compliance are met. You may have knowledge of insurance or finance, but as our existing Agents come from a broad range of backgrounds, it’s more important that you know how to use your entrepreneurial flair and clear vision to grow your business.

NFU Group Secretary

The National Farmers Union (NFU) represents the voice of agriculture up to the highest levels, on both national and international platforms. For more than 110 years, the NFU and NFU Mutual have enjoyed a close relationship, working together to provide a first-class service to the farming and wider rural community. As an NFU Group Secretary, you’ll play a major role at the heart of your local farming community. You’ll champion the interests of local farmers, arrange local meetings and events, recruit and retain members and keep them up-to-date on agricultural policy. With full backing from the NFU, you’ll have access to expert advice and specialist support on everything from policy and increasing membership to marketing and media. Combining your duties as an NFU Group Secretary with your work as an Agent of NFU Mutual gives you the chance to make the most of new opportunities for your agency, as well as introducing what the NFU and NFU Mutual have to offer to a wider audience. The roles are intrinsically linked.

Rewards and benefits

As an Agent of NFU Mutual and a Partner with the existing Agent in the NFU Mutual Agency network, you’ll be joining an established business in an existing office, so won’t need to make any up-front capital investment. As a self-employed Agent, you’ll have a 1st year estimated OTE of up to £90k with genuine prospects for growth. Your drive, vision and personal ambition are the only limit to your future earning potential. This unique self-employed opportunity gives you the autonomy to grow an existing business with the backing of a major organisation whilst enjoying the freedom of being your own boss. As well as investment support, you’ll also have access to a full range of courses at our dedicated Training Academy; including sales, business and finance planning, team recruitment and NFU Mutual products.
